Back2Front - The Web Site People: Fully Managed Web Site Service

Domain Names

What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is the "address" of your web site. It will usually look something like "www.yourcompany.com". Domain Names are purchased and registered through a domain name registrar. Since no two domain names can be identical, registering a domain name reserves you the right to its exclusive use. Domain Name registration must be renewed annually via the registrar, or else the Domain Name becomes available for someone else to purchase.

Choosing a Domain Name
Purchasing a Domain Name helps to secure your "Internet identity", by reserving a name that relates to your company. When choosing a Domain Name, try to pick something that is memorable, descriptive of your endeavour, and the shorter the better. You may select a Domain Name in the format of www.yourcompanyname.com or www.your-company-name.com, and choose one of several available postfixes, such as .com, .ca, .org, .net, etc.

Domain Name Registration
Back2Front includes one domain name free with your web site service package. We will register it for you, and take care of the annual renewal as long as you are our customer. Think of it as our annual customer appreciation gift to you!

You already own a Domain Name
If you already own a Domain Name it is currently administered under some registrar. If you'd like, we can transfer the domain over to our registrar. By doing so, we would be able to:
  1. look after your domain configuration on your behalf (this is what we mean by "administration")
  2. look after the annual renewal fees (this is what we mean by "1 free domain")
  3. offer free email forwarding service for that domain.
If you choose not to transfer the domain to us, then you would simply not be able to benefit from these offers, and have to look after the domain management yourself.

Some questions people ask:
Who owns the domain if it is transferred to Back2Front?
Answer: You (the customer) do. Although we administer it, the registration record remains under your name.

What happens to my domain if I decide to leave Back2Front?
Answer: At any time, you may transfer your domain to another registrar, by simply submitting a transfer request via the new registrar.

Why do you do things this way?
Answer: Because it makes us accountable for everything to do with your web site - we become your "one-stop-shop", which improves the over-all service.

Note: A "registrar" is just the company you use to register your domain.
